A companion falls before their time
There is never an easy way to start a conversation about someone who went on many adventures with you both in the real world navigating the nightmare challenges of everyday life as well as the fantasy lands of our imagination. One of the few certainties we have in life is that we shall all die, but no one prepares you for the loss of those whose time comes way to early and the increased frequency in which it happens. Many brave companions who were very important to those around them have fallen leaving a combination of grief and beautiful memories in their wake. You do not tend to grow up with much of an understanding of this, leaving many ill-prepared for such continuous loss. So, as I write this, with a heavy heart, another soul was lost on the 12th of June 2024, someone I loved dearly, and this short blog series is going to show how I've decided to honour his memory. My friend meant a lot of different things to different people, so our ways of remembering someone will rarely be the same. He was many things and, in a way, lived many lives amongst diverse groups in very dissimilar settings. As such, these posts may not resonate with everyone who knew him, I would believe very few had the same relationship I did with him relating to our shared interests and passions, so this is how I’ve chosen to remember him, but this is in no way reflective of even a small part of who he was.
This is for my friend; Tom, Tom A, Atom Holborn, Thomas Ayris. A friend through the decades, and a regular adventuring companion. You will be missed. You were loved.
